Location:

  • The Ytterby project is located about 230 kilometres (km) northeast of the town of Schefferville, near the Quebec/Labrador border.

Property:

  • The Ytterby property comprises four claim blocks named Ytterby 1, 2, 3 and 5 totalling 1,234 claims covering a surface area of about 375 km2.

Highlights:

  • Ytterby 1: Large land position over more than 25 km covering the rare earth element (REE) mineralized boulder train likely originating from the REE Strange Lake and B-Zone deposits. These two deposits have estimated resources standing at 52 million tonnes at 3.25% ZrO2 and 1.3% REE (not NI43-101 compliant) and, 492.5 million tonnes combined indicated and inferred (NI43-101 compliant) at 0.9% TREO+Y2O3 and 1.82% ZrO2 respectively. In surface, some zones of the boulder train, especially to the northwest, shows high concentration of REE bearing boulders reaching a 1:1 mineralized over barren boulders ratio. A surficial till survey returned a rather consistent TREO + Y2O3 concentration of 0.2% over some zones more than 2 km2 in the +19 to –63 mm fraction of the till. Over this same area, 50 mineralized boulders sampling larger than 128mm have returned TREO values ranging from 0.27 to 2.5% TREO + Y2O3  averaging 0.60% TREO + Y2O3 . The proportion of heavy rare earth elements plus yttrium oxide (HREO + Y2O3 ) reaches 38.5% from this group of samples. Assuming a 6 meters (m) likely average thickness of the till, the area may possibly have more than 200 million tonnes of unconsolidated material inclosing REE mineralized boulders. Midland believes possible to economically mine this unconsolidated material exploiting the physical features of the rare earth minerals to facilitate the mineralized boulders extraction (ore sorting) from the till.

  • Ytterby 2: HREO + Y2O3 bearing syenogranite discovery. Channel sampling in the intrusion returned 0.41% TREO+Y2O3 over 3.0 m among which 60% are HREO + Y2O3 . These results were not repeated by diamond drilling. Peripheral, southeast of the syenogranite, discovery of a 25m thick REE bearing sub-horizontal multi-layered complex hosted in altered interbedded Rapakivi-textured alkalin granite with thin layers of alkalin granite. More than 10 mineralized layers were intersected by drilling within 28.6m and returned 0.07% TREO + Y2O3 in average including 0.1% OETR + Y2O3 over 3.3m. This open mineralized system has been traced over more than 75m laterally. More than 15 sub-metric to metric channels returned TREO + Y2O3 values greater than 0.1% TREO + Y2O3 with a maximum of de 0.41% OETR+Y2O3 over 1.0m.

  • Ytterby 3: Discovery of a multi-layered metric to decimetric sub-horizontal complex enrich in LREO hosted within a large massif interbedded alkalin granite and Rapakivi-textured alkalin granite intrusion. The spatial setting of the mineralized layers shares many resemblances with the Lovozero and Khibina magmatic apatite and REE deposits in Russia. Among more than 7 occurrences of this type on the property, the best one returned 1.7% TREO + Y2O3 over 2.5m in channel sample and 0.17% over 43m in drill hole ending with 0.28% over 13.9m. Discovery of a large REE enrich alkalin dyke (30m) returning 0.42% TREO +Y2O3 over 10.8m in channel samples and traced over more than 300m (Plug Showing).

  • Ytterby 5: Discovery of a large rare earth elements bearing alkalin dyke (25m) returning 0.46% TREO +Y2O3 over 18.0m in channel samples.

Partnership:

  • Joint Venture between Midland (50%) and Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) (50%). JOGMEC earned 50% interest after spending a total of $2,700,000 in exploration expenditures.
